Philadelphia, PA — La Salle field hockey went toe-to-toe with Rider in a back-and-forth contest on Sunday afternoon at Ellen Vagelos Field, but a late goal in the fourth overtime lifted the Broncs to a 4–3 win.
The Explorers came out strong, striking first in the 10th minute when freshman Jeanne Legast buried a pass from sophomore Roos Pasveer for her second goal of the season. Rider equalized just two minutes later on a penalty stroke before junior Natalie Forman restored La Salle's lead in the 18th minute. The Broncs answered again before halftime to send the game into the break tied at 2–2.
After the intermission, La Salle continued to apply pressure, and senior Shea Burns capitalized in the 45th minute to give the Explorers a 3–2 advantage. The goal marked Burns fourth of the season, taking sole posession of the team-lead. Rider's Valeria Perales notched the equalizer midway through the fourth quarter and later completed her brace with the game-winner in the 74th minute.
Perales led all players with two goals and four shots on goal, while La Salle's offense came at the hands of three different players. Sophomore Roos Pasveer also tallied two assists, while freshman Janne Zillessen contributed two defensive saves.
In goal, junior Abby Boggs made 10 saves, including several key stops in extra time to keep the Explorers in contention. Rider outshot La Salle 22–13 and held a 7–4 edge in penalty corners.
La Salle returns to action next week with another home matchup as Atlantic 10 play continues against Lock Haven, before hitting the road to play Mercyhurst.
