Men’s Basketball Opens Big 5 Play At Temple On Tuesday

Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle men's basketball team will open Big 5 play on Wednesday at Temple, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm. Tuesday's game also marks the first road game of the season for the Explorers.

Last Time Out

La Salle moved to 2-0 on the season with a 73-60 win over Monmouth on Saturday. The win marked La Salle's sixth straight victory on homecoming. The Explorers are now 2-0 for the third straight season and moved to 12-5 at John E. Glaser Arena, which opened last year.

Walker Earns Big 5 Honors

Freshman Ashton Walker earned Big 5 Rookie of the Week honors. Walker shined against Coppin State, leading the way with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Walker's 18 points are the most by a La Salle freshman in a season-opener since Donnie Carr scored 36 points against Mount St. Mary's in 1996. Against Monmouth, Walker added six points and a game-high nine assists to help lead the Explorers to a 2-0 start.

Marshall's Big Day

Graduate student Jaeden Marshall led the Explorers with 26 points, including 12-12 accuracy from the free throw line, against Monmouth. Through one week, Marshall is second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 20.5 points. The graduate student is 16-16 from the charity stripe to start the season while ranking  31st nationally in free throws.

Getting To The Line

The Explorers lead the Atlantic 10 with 24 free throws made per game, good for 27th in the country. Under Darris Nichols, Radford was 20th in the country in free throw attempts in 2024-25.

Rebound That Jawn

The Explorers' motto is on full display through the first two games of the season. La Salle's 20 offensive rebounds against Monmouth were the most since January 9, 2013 against Charlotte.
The Explorers have 40+ rebounds in consecutive games since December 2019. La Salle has not had three straight games with 40 or more rebounds since 2009-10.

Defending Downtown

The Explorers rank 43rd in the country in scoring defense, in part due to their ability to defend beyond the arc. Opponents are shooting just 19.1% from long range through two games, good for 15th in the country.

Dame Time

Senior Damon Strand has given La Salle a spark off the bench, sinking five three-pointers in two games. His 62.5% three-point percentage leads the Atlantic 10 and is 35th nationally.

Playing With The Lead

Through two games, La Salle has led for 71:21 minutes.

The Series

The Explorers will be looking for their second straight victory over Temple after earning an 83-75 win at John E. Glaser Arena last year to advance to the Big 5 Championship game.
The last time the two teams met at Temple was in 2023, a three-overtime thriller that resulted in a 106-99 Temple victory. La Salle's last victory at the Liacouras Center came in 2009.

Scouting The Owls

Temple enters Tuesday's matchup with a 1-0 record after earning an 83-65 victory over Delaware State in the Owls' season-opener.
