Macktoon And Przyszlak Power Women's Basketball Past VCU 70-62 In Atlantic 10 Opener

Philadelphia, PA  – The La Salle women's basketball team opened Atlantic 10 play with a 70-62 victory over VCU on Wednesday night at John E. Glaser Arena. Junior guard Aryss Macktoon once again paced the Explorers offensively while sophomore forward Anna Przyszlak posted her best performance of the season to help the Explorers improve to 6-2 on the year.

The game was even through the first quarter, with both teams tied at 16. La Salle found its rhythm in the second, building a 35-29 halftime lead behind strong interior play and pressure defense. The Explorers broke things open in the third quarter, outscoring VCU 21-14 and extending the lead to as many as 17 after a clutch three-pointer from Ivona Miljanic. Despite a late push from the Rams in the fourth, Miljanic delivered a key layup to keep La Salle in control, and the Explorers closed out the win.

Macktoon led all scorers with 21 points on 9-for-12 shooting, marking her third 20-point game of the season. She added 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Przyszlak gave La Salle a major lift with 15 points, 6 rebounds and a career-high 3 three-pointers. Redshirt freshman Kiara Williams set new career highs with 8 rebounds and 2 steals, while Ashleigh Connor paced the Explorers with a career-high 6 assists to go along with 7 points and 3 steals.

The Explorers forced 20 VCU turnovers and held the Rams to 36.7 percent shooting from the field. La Salle outscored VCU 34-20 in the paint and held the lead for nearly 32 minutes. The team shot 41.5 percent from the floor and generated more shot attempts than the Rams, overcoming VCU's 32-14 edge in bench points. The win marks La Salle's third straight over VCU and a strong start to conference play.

La Salle will face Penn in their next matchup on Sunday, Dec. 7, at noon at Finneran Pavilion in Philadelphia. Fans can follow along as the Explorers look to continue their winning ways.
