Philadelphia, PA — La Salle women's swim and dive competed in a tri-meet against Rhode Island and UMass at Kirk Pool Saturday. Overall, the women beat Rhode Island by a score of 183-114, but fell to UMass 155-143.
La Salle started the morning with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as seniors Rosalia Marin Martinez, Carlota Ungo, Tori Fenn, and Gabriela Herbreder teamed up for a winning time of 1:45.55, edging out UMass by just three-tenths of a second.
Herbreder continued to anchor the Explorer lineup with another dominant outing, earning three individual wins on the day. She claimed the 150-yard butterfly in 1:31.33, took the 150-yard breaststroke in 1:43.17, and capped off the session with a victory in the 100 IM at 58.39. Fellow senior Felicia Rogell backed her up with a runner-up finish in the 150 fly (1:32.32) and third in the IM (1:00.79).
In the sprints, Fenn delivered a series of strong results, placing second in the 50 free skins (24.70) and later winning the 50-yard butterfly in 25.91. Senior Maren Schermerhorn added a clutch second-place finish in the 50-free with a time of 25.20.
The Explorers closed the meet with another impressive relay performance, finishing second in the 200-free relay at 1:37.84, just behind UMass. The squad of Marin Martinez, sophomore Shailla Mejia, Schermerhorn, and Fenn kept La Salle in the mix until the final touch.
Both teams return to action next month in a road dual meet against Bucknell.
