Five Explorers in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Outlasts George Washington

Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball team defeated the George Washington Revolutionaries at John E. Glaser Arena on Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 73-67.

Deuce Jones and Corey McKeithan led the way for the Blue and Gold, scoring 19 points each. Mac Etienne put forth a strong effort in his third start in a row, shooting 5/6 from the field to go along with three blocks and two steals.

Each member of the Explorers starting five scored in double figures in the victory, a feat that hadn't been accomplished since La Salle's 92-77 victory over Stetson on November 23, 2024.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:
  • Despite back-to-back made layups from graduate student Jahlil White, the Revolutionaries jumped out to an early 10-4 lead.
  • A deep three by graduate student Corey McKeithan cut the lead to one, but the Revs remained in control with five straight made field goals to begin play. McKeithan would go on to score the next four points for the Explorers, single-handedly keeping them in the game.
  • Junior Demetrius Lilley's first two points after missing the last two games came at the free throw line, giving La Salle their first lead of the contest (15-14) with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
  • The Revs immediately recaptured the lead on an 8-0 run featuring three different scorers. The run would finally be broken with back-to-back high-flying layups by freshman Deuce Jones, cutting the lead to 22-19.
  • After hauling in back-to-back offensive rebounds, redshirt junior Mac Etienne connected on a layup deep inside the paint before interrupting an alley-oop attempt on the defensive side. The stop held the Revs to a one point lead, 35-34, with less than a minute to go.
  • White cracked double digits at the line, knotting the game at 35 heading into halftime break.

Second Half:
  • The Revs got off to a 6-0 run to open up the second half before Etienne got the Explorers back on track with a made layup and another block at the other end.
  • Junior big man Rafael Castro scored on three straight possessions to keep George Washington ahead, 48-45.
  • Jones and Trey Moss traded three-point baskets to bring the score to 53-49 with under 12 minutes remaining.
  • Regaining the team-high in scoring, McKeithan connected on his second three to cut the Revolutionary lead to three, 57-54 with under 8 minutes remaining.
  • Going on a single handed 6-0 run featuring a four-point play and another layup, Jones managed to tie the score at 60 with less than five minutes remaining.
  • The Explorers gained their first lead (62-60) since early in the first half on an elusive layup by McKeithan, pushing his total to 16.
  • Senior Daeshon Shepherd traded baskets with the Revs, holding onto a slim 66-65 lead with two minutes remaining.
  • Picking off the Revolutionary pass, White immediately got the rock to the red-hot McKeithan, extending the lead to four (69-65) with his third three-point field goal of the day.
  • Putting the game on ice, Jones knocked down four straight free throws, extending the Explorer lead to 73-65. The Revs would score once more, but La Salle would earn their fourth conference win of the season by a final score of 73-67.
