PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team led by double digits for a majority of the second half, but a last-second three-pointer by Fordham's Chaé Harris gave the Rams a 61-58 victory on Wednesday night at John E. Glaser Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rams jumped out to a 14-13 lead in the first quarter, as graduate student Jolene Armendariz led La Salle with five points.
- Thanks to 4-4 accuracy at the free throw line and six total points by redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Connor, the Explorers took the lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Rams 11-8 to take a 24-22 lead at the half.
- The Explorers opened the third quarter on fire, scoring nine straight points to take a 33-22 lead, as a three by freshman Joan Quinn forced Fordham to call for time.
- A pair of free throws by Connor gave the Explorers their biggest lead of the game with 42 seconds to play in the third quarter at 48-35.
- La Salle converted 10-16 (62.5%) field goal attempts in the third quarter and outscored Fordham 24-16 to take an 11-point lead in to the final period.
- Sophomore Aryss Macktoon scored four straight points to make it 54-43 in favor of La Salle with 6:32 to play, but the Rams rallied and tied the game at 55-55 with 2:38 to play.
- Another bucket by Macktoon gave the Explorers a 58-56 lead with 52 seconds to play. Fordham tied the game with 35 seconds to play and then took the lead on Harris' three with seven seconds to play to earn the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Macktoon led the Explorers with 15 points, while Connor and Quinn added 10 points apiece.
- Graduate student Mackenzie Daleba led La Salle with seven assists on the night.
- The Explorers had a 39-34 advantage on the glass and outscored Fordham 34-26 in the paint.
Next up, La Salle will travel to Rhode Island on Saturday, February 15, with tip-off set for noon.
