WASHINGTON, D.C. – Down 17 at the half, the La Salle Explorers made an outstanding comeback effort, but fell just short to the George Washington Revolutionaries, 71-60 on Saturday night. La Salle trailed nearly the entire game but came as close as four points with over three minutes remaining.
Corey McKeithan impressed with his seventh game scoring 20 or more points while also adding six rebounds, one short of his career-high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
- La Salle led early thanks to a three-pointer from Jahlil White, but the Revolutionaries scored 21 of the next 27 points to build a 23-11 lead with 10:36 remaining in the first half.
- The Explorers countered with a 10-2 run to climb back into the game, 25-21, GW.
- The first half continued to be one of runs. George Washington ended the half on a 17-4 run to take a 42-25 cushion into the break.
Second Half:
- La Salle roared out of the break, scoring eight quick points to slice the lead to single-digits, 42-33.
- The teams traded baskets. The Explorers got as close as five points with 13 minutes remaining off a pair of Deuce Jones free throws.
- Down 47-40, the Explorers rained in shots from beyond the arc. Demetrius Lilley and McKeithan splashed three consecutive deep balls to get as close as two points, 48-46.
- With La Salle knocking on the door, the Revolutionaries mounted another run to get back up eight, 58-49 with seven minutes left on the board.
- La Salle continued to fight, pulling back within five off an electric dunk from Jones to Shepherd to cut the lead back to five, 60-55.
- The Revolutionaries slowed the game's pace to a crawl and were able to drain the clock with strong defense. La Salle fell, 71-60.
