Henrico, VA – The La Salle women's basketball team outscored #6 Dayton 16-11 in the second quarter to get within four points of the Flyers at the midway mark, but it wasn't enough, as the Explorers fell 60-45 in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Thursday night.
The Explorers conclude their season one night after earning their first Atlantic 10 Tournament victory since 2021 and becoming the second-ever 11-seed to earn a victory in the first round of the tournament.
In her final collegiate game, graduate student
Mackenzie Daleba led the Blue and Gold with 14 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore
Aryss Macktoon added 12 points. Fellow graduate student
Jolene Armendariz led La Salle with eight rebounds on the night.
How It Happened
-Trailing 20-12 after the first quarter, La Salle outscored the Flyers 16-11 in the second quarter to make it a three-point game at the half.
-Macktoon led all scorers with six points in the second quarter.
-Armendariz delivered the biggest play of the first half with just six seconds remaining, connecting on a four-point play to make it a one-possession game at the half.
-Dayton went on a run to start the third quarter, outscoring the Explorers 14-7 to open up a double-digit lead.
-The Flyers closed out the game with a 15-10 fourth quarter to advance to the next round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
-Daleba scored eight points in the fourth quarter to lead La Salle.
Inside The Numbers
-The Explorers held a 39-35 edge on the glass and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds on the night.
-Macktoon once again led the Explorers with three steals on the night.
