Women's Water Polo Defeats Toronto, Wins Sixth Of Last Seven Games

PHILADELPHIA - On Friday, the La Salle women's water polo team earned a 16-12 victory against the Toronto Golden Jets in their first game at Kirk Pool this season.

Senior Francesca Co' led the way for the Blue and Gold with five goals, three of which came in the second quarter. Sophomore Lily Kirby recorded eight saves, three of which also came in the second quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Following a relatively quiet first quarter that saw each team find the net three times, the scoring began to erupt in the second. Three Explorers scored six goals in the period.

In a game that featured six ties in the first half alone, the Explorers managed to hold onto a 9-7 lead, heading into halftime.

Fortifying their defensive efforts in the second half, La Salle held their opponents from north of the border to a single goal in the third quarter. They extended their lead to 14-8 on five goals scored by five different players.

From there, the Explorers coasted to their seventh win of the season and their sixth in their last seven contests. In the final period, senior Tatum Lomax and junior Allie Hollo became the sixth and seventh Explorers to score on the night.

Looking to keep their three-game winning streak alive, the Blue and Gold will travel to Lexington, VA next weekend for three games with Iona, Mount St. Mary's, and Marist.
