Men’s Golf Defeats Monmouth In Match Play Portion Of Dragon Match Play Invitational

Lafayette Hill, PA - On Monday and Tuesday, the La Salle men's golf team competed in the Dragon Match Play Invitational, defeating Monmouth on Tuesday by a final score of 3.5-1.5.
 
On Monday, each of the eight teams in the field played 36 holes stroke play to seed the match play portion of the tournament that was played on Tuesday.
 
Sophomore Gavin Dosch led the Explorers on Monday, shooting a +2 and +1 at the par 71 Green Valley Country Club. With seven birdies on the day, he finished T7 individually.
 
Juniors Benjamin Battye and Armand Loscalzo also each finished in the top 20, shooting +8 overall. Not far behind, senior Alex Gekas shot +10, finishing in the top 25. Graduate student Matt Lafond rounded out the Explorers efforts on Monday, shooting +18 through 36 holes.
 
As a team, La Salle finished fifth among eight teams, matching them up against Monmouth who finished eighth. 
 
Gekas highlighted the match play portion of the event, winning his matchup by four strokes with three holes to play. Battye also won his matchup, but only by a single stroke. Dosch, Loscalzo, and Lafond each halved their matchups, giving the Explorers a 3.5-1.5 victory.
 
Next up, the Blue and Gold will travel to Raleigh, NC to compete in the Stitch Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course beginning April 10 marking the final scheduled event prior to the Atlantic 10 Championship.
