PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 3-2 victory over the Bucknell Bison Thursday evening at McCarthy Stadium.
The Explorers struck first in the 19th minute when 5th year captain
Jillian Drumm found the back of the net to put the homestanding squad up 1-0. Just two minutes later, Bucknell responded as Henna Andican converted to level the score at 1-1.
La Salle reclaimed the lead in the 25th minute when
Kayden Williams, assisted by
Rylee Henson, made it 2-1. The score would hold into halftime despite chances for both sides.
Early in the second half, Bucknell once again drew even as Louisa Thomsen scored in the 57th minute to make it 2-2. The deadlock lasted less than two minutes before
Alexis Garcia netted the eventual game-winner off the crossbar in the 58th minute.
La Salle finished with 11 shots to Bucknell's 12, while goalkeeper
Mackenna Yaracs recorded four saves to secure the win. Bucknell keeper Jess Benattar also made four stops in the hard-fought match.
The Explorers will look to build on the win as they host another in-state foe in Lehigh next week.
