Rugby Debuts In Front Of Packed House, Falling to Mount St. Mary's

PHILADELPHIAOn a sun-soaked afternoon, the La Salle Rugby team played its first game in program history, hosting the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers. In front of a capacity crowd, the Explorers fell 55-12.

Maeve Delaney scored both tries for La Salle, with Taylor Major going 1-2 on conversions.

Mount St. Mary's opened the scoring in the 19th minute with an early try and built momentum with another just four minutes later to make it 10-0. The visitors would add two more before halftime, including a converted effort at the 40-minute mark to take a 24-0 lead into the break.

The Mount struck again just after halftime to extend the margin to 31-0, before La Salle broke through in the 46th minute as Delany crossed the line for the first Explorer try of the day. After another Mount score, Delaney answered again in the 58th minute, this time with a successful conversion from Major to trim the deficit to 36-12.

Mount St. Mary's closed strong, tacking on three more tries in the final 15 minutes, including a converted effort in the 77th minute, to seal the 55-12 final.

La Salle continues its season next Saturday with Frostburg State visiting DeVincent Field.
