Seven Explorers Score As Field Hockey Routs New Haven

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle bounced back in emphatic fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating New Haven 9–1 at Ellen Ryan Field to earn its first win of the 2025 season. The Explorers exploded offensively, scoring six goals after halftime and controlling the pace from the outset against the Division I newcomers.

La Salle opened the scoring just over five minutes into the match through junior Natalie Forman and never looked back. Junior Darian DeLeo and senior Shea Burns each added goals before the break, giving the Explorers a 3–1 lead at halftime. New Haven's lone goal came from Jalia Cooper late in the second quarter, briefly cutting the deficit to one.

Burns struck again early in the third quarter to restore the cushion, and La Salle poured it on late, scoring five times in the final 15 minutes. Junior Matilda Diedrichsen notched a pair of goals in that stretch, while junior Gabrielle LaCroix, and freshmen Annabel Leussink and Jeanne Legast also added tallies. DeLeo finished with a goal and an assist, and LaCroix a helper of her own.

The Explorers dominated the stat sheet, outshooting New Haven 27–4 and earning 13 penalty corners to the Chargers' two. Junior goalkeeper Abby Boggs made two saves in 45 minutes of action before giving way to Leah DiRenzo, who finished out the match.

La Salle improves to 1–1 on the season and will look to carry momentum into its next matchup against Saint Francis on Sunday. New Haven, in its inaugural Division I campaign, falls to 0–3.
