Field Hockey Loses Defensive Battle To Saint Francis

PHILADELPHIA  – La Salle dropped its third game of the season Sunday afternoon, falling 2–0 to visiting Saint Francis at Ellen Vagelos Field. The Explorers were coming off a dominant 9–1 victory over New Haven just two days earlier but couldn't carry that offensive momentum into the weekend matchup.

Saint Francis scored both of its goals in the second quarter, taking advantage of sustained pressure in the circle. Hannah Capo opened the scoring at the 25:42 mark off a feed from Morgan Smeltz, notching her first goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Sofia Marciano doubled the lead with a finish set up by Madison Waldspurger.

From there, the Red Flash defense clamped down, limiting La Salle to just five total shots and three on target for the afternoon. Saint Francis outshot the Explorers 13–5 and earned 11 penalty corners compared to La Salle's five. Junior Abby Boggs made seven saves to keep her team in it, but the the opposing team's second quarter offense proved to be too much for the Blue and Gold.

The loss drops La Salle to 1–2 on the season. Saint Francis, now 2–2, bounced back following a 3–0 defeat to Bucknell in their previous outing.

La Salle returns to action next weekend at Villanova as they look to regain their offensive rhythm and build off the flashes of dominance shown earlier in the season.
