PHILADELPHIA, PA – The La Salle men's basketball team (7-15, 3-6 A10) fell 67-58 to Saint Joseph's (14-8, 6-3 A-10) in a Big 5 and Atlantic 10 rivalry matchup on Saturday afternoon at John E. Glaser Arena.
Redshirt sophomore guard Rob Dockery delivered a historic performance, posting career highs with 26 points and 14 rebounds for his first career double-double. Dockery also set a new personal best with 12 field goals made and tallied five assists.
Freshman guard Ashton Walker tallied nine points, a game-high six assists, and a career-high four steals, and a team-leading six assists.
La Salle played from behind for much of the contest, trailing 36-29 at halftime as Saint Joseph's capitalized on hot perimeter shooting. The Hawks extended their lead to as many as 16 points midway through the second half
The Explorers mounted a late surge behind Dockery, who converted a driving layup to trim the deficit to five with under a minute to play, but key free throws by the visitors sealed the outcome.
Teamwide, the Explorers dominated the paint with a 40-16 advantage in points but were hampered by cold shooting from beyond the arc, finishing 3-for-19 (15.8%) compared to Saint Joseph's 14-for-32 (43.8%) clip.
La Salle returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 3, with an Atlantic 10 road matchup at Loyola Chicago. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. EST.
