PHILADELPHIA, PA – The La Salle men's basketball team (7-18, 3-9 A-10) fell 77-68 to VCU (19-6, 10-2 A-10) on Wednesday night at John E. Glaser Arena in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup.
Redshirt sophomore guard Rob Dockery led La Salle with 17 points and 8 rebounds, approaching a double-double while adding two assists, a steal and a block. Freshman guard Ashton Walker scored 14 points in a season-high 36 minutes, and graduate student guard Truth Harris provided a spark off the bench with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
VCU, riding a seven-game win streak, opened the game with efficient inside scoring and built a 37-31 lead at halftime. The Explorers battled through adversity, using their 18th different starting lineup of the season and missing several players to injury, but kept pace in the opening half.
La Salle trimmed the deficit to two points early in the second half when Jaeden Marshall knocked down a jumper to make it 55-53. The Rams responded behind Lazar Djokovic, who finished with a game-high 26 points, including a crucial late layup that pushed the lead to 7 with under two minutes to play.
The Explorers were limited to 39.3 percent shooting from the floor and struggled from deep, connecting on just 4 of 19 three-point attempts. VCU outshot La Salle at 48.3% overall and gained an edge by making the most of their trips to the line in the second half.
