PHILADELPHIA, PA – The La Salle women's lacrosse team (3-8, 0-3 A-10) suffered a 17-6 loss to Rhode Island (4-6, 1-2 A-10) in an Atlantic 10 conference matchup at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday.
Senior attacker Emi Waldron led the Explorers with four goals, bringing her team-leading total to 32.
Senior attacker Sam Klein and junior midfielder Mia Riccitelli each chipped in with one goal.
Junior attacker Kate Licciardi also picked up her team-leading 11th assist in the contest.
In goal, senior captain Mary Babbage turned away 14 shots while facing a relentless Rams attack.
Rhode Island set the tempo early, building a 4-2 advantage in the first quarter despite a resilient response from La Salle. After the Rams jumped out to a two-goal lead, Riccitelli and Waldron answered, with Waldron tying the game at two midway through the opening frame.
The second quarter saw Rhode Island seize momentum with a 4-0 run that pushed the margin to 8-3, putting La Salle in catch-up mode for the rest of the afternoon.
Despite a quick goal from Waldron in the third quarter, the Rams closed the contest on a 9-0 run to secure the victory.
La Salle looks to regroup on the road Saturday, March 21, traveling to Richmond, Va. to face VCU at 12 p.m.
