Philadelphia, PA – La Salle women's lacrosse (3-13, 0-8 A-10) fell 19-9 to St. Bonaventure (9-7, 5-3 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, as the Explorers marked Alumni Appreciation and LaCROSSe Out Cancer Day.
Senior attacker Emi Waldron and freshman midfielder Delaney Staples each finished with two goals to lead the Explorers. Waldron fired a team-high 10 shots, notching a two-goal performance for the 10th time this season and pushing her season goal total to 38. Staples' two goals matched her career single-game best.
Senior goalkeeper Mary Babbage anchored the defense with 11 saves in net, which tied for her fourth-highest total this year. Kate Licciardi, Molly Maloney, Kayla Norris, Auria Mullins and Sam Klein each added one goal apiece, with Klein reaching 18 goals on the season for a new personal best.
St. Bonaventure set the tone early, but La Salle kept the contest close through the opening half. After trading goals in the first quarter, the Bonnies held a narrow 4-3 advantage. Goals from Staples, Licciardi, and Maloney kept the Explorers within striking distance.
La Salle trimmed the margin to 6-5 midway through the second quarter after Staples and Waldron scored, but a late St. Bonaventure goal sent the Explorers into halftime trailing 8-5.
Despite several moments of resilience throughout the contest, La Salle was unable to stem the Bonnies' offense in the closing stretch.
The Bonnies took control in the second half, outscoring La Salle 11-4 over the final two quarters and used a dominant stretch on the draw to retain possession.
La Salle heads to Davidson for its final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 25. Opening draw is set for noon.
