Warren, OH - La Salle University women's golf finished fifth out of five teams at the YSU Spring Invitational, held Sunday and Monday at Avalon Lakes Golf Course. The Explorers carded a two-round total of 679 (+103), marking their lowest 36-hole team score of the 2025-26 season and showing strong progress in the spring slate.
The team's performance was highlighted by freshman Jewel Schaefer, who finished tied for ninth overall in a 38-player field—the best individual tournament result by a La Salle golfer this season. Schaefer shot rounds of 78 and 84 for a 162 (+18), leading the Blue and Gold by six strokes over the next Explorer and posting team bests in both par-4 (4.46) and par-5 (5.50) scoring averages. Her opening-round 78 was also the lowest round by any La Salle golfer this season.
Senior Nina Okenkova placed 21st with a 168 (+24), improving from 85 to 83 between rounds and tallying 14 pars and two birdies. Senior Sydnie Leavery followed closely, finishing 25th at 171 (+27) with 15 pars. Senior Hannah Gammons registered the largest round-over-round improvement on the team, dropping eight strokes from her first-round 95 to an 87 in the final round to finish 34th. Sophomore Samantha Song posted a total of 183 (+39) and recorded two birdies, while freshman Sarah Doherty wrapped up the lineup with a 198 (+54).
Despite finishing fifth in team standings, La Salle's 679 is its best two-round score of the year, improving on previous marks from both the fall and spring. The Explorers' second-round 338 (+94) was their lowest single-round team score of the spring campaign, underlining developing consistency and positive momentum heading into the season's home stretch.
The Explorers will return to Philadelphia next weekend for an 18-hole tri-match with Saint Joseph's and Wagner at Union League - Liberty Hill on Sunday, April 6.
