Jersey City, NJ – La Salle's first three batters of the game reached to load the bases before an out was recorded, and cleanup hitter
Kosei Suzuki belted a grand slam as the Explorers never looked back in a 19-3 romping of Saint Peter's Wednesday afternoon in New Jersey.
La Salle tallied 20 hits on the afternoon to march back into the win column.
Chase Swain led the offensive attack with a pair of home runs, going 4-for-5 with five runs scored and three RBI.
Alec Welshans also drove in a trio of runs, while
Rueben Livingston and
PJ Rose contributed a pair of RBI each.
Rose recorded his first hit and RBIs in his season debut with a two-run single in the top of the seventh. Rose, a redshirt-sophomore who spent his first year in college at NJCAA Central Alabama CC, recorded the first NCAA hit of his career, as did freshman
John Mendola. Mendola later worked a bases-loaded walk for his first career RBI.
Carter Groen went 4-for-5 on a pair of doubles with four runs scored and an RBI, while
Daniel Perez,
Justin Szestowicki, and
John Mendola each added RBI.
On the mound, La Salle starter
Chase Forester struck out three in three innings pitched, allowing just a run on two hits, walking none.
Ryan Brown,
Will Seiler, and
Dante Edwardi combined to toss three scoreless in middle relief, bridging the fourth to sixth innings.
Lucas Edwards finished out the seventh inning for the Explorers.
La Salle scored in every inning but the fifth, putting up cooked numbers in the first (4), second (5), third (3), sixth (3) and seventh (3).
The Explores will look to carry the momentum as they head further up I-95 to take on Rhode Island in this weekend's Atlantic 10 Conference series.
