Philadelphia, PA – Former La Salle men's soccer standout Ryan Richter was tabbed Interim Head Coach of the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday.
Richter joined the Union's technical staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2022 season and most recently served as head coach for Philadelphia Union II.
Richter played professionally for seven years, after being drafted fifth overall in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Union before serving in various coaching roles within the organization beginning in 2018. Richter served as the first team's assistant head coach from 2022-2024, before being appointed to his most recent role as Union II's head coach in January 2025.
A 2010 graduate of La Salle and 2024 Hall of Athletes inductee, Richter was an Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman on the men's soccer team after scoring five goals and registering two assists. Two years later, he picked up NSCAA All-Region and Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year accolades after compiling seven goals and seven assists.
Richter rounded out his standout career in style, earning Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year honors after scoring a team-high 14 goals and 30 points. Richter closed his career sixth all-time in career goals (28) and seventh in points (69).
