Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle field hockey team fell to Penn, 7-1, Friday afternoon at Ellen Vagelos Field.
Penn jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times in the opening quarter to take a 3-0 advantage after 15 minutes. The Explorers settled in during the second quarter, creating several scoring opportunities and earning three penalty corners.
La Salle broke through at the 26:05 mark when sophomore Erin Sicari scored the first collegiate goal of her career, finishing a chance off an assist from Jeanne Legast to cut the deficit to two.
Penn answered with two goals in the third quarter to extend its lead to 5-1 before adding two more in the fourth.
Goalkeeper Abby Boggs made 16 saves across 51:48 of action, including six in the second quarter and seven in the fourth, extending her lead as the nation's leader in saves and saves per game. Zarah Synnestvedt entered late in the fourth and made an additional save.
The Explorers finished with 16 shots, putting 14 on target, while earning six penalty corners, all season-highs. Tilly Diedrichsen led La Salle with six shots, all of which were on goal.
La Salle returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Queens at The Proving Grounds at 12:00 PM.
