Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle field hockey team earned an 8-0 shutout victory over New Haven Sunday afternoon at Buckley Field. Tilly Diedrichsen recorded the Explorers' first hat trick since 2023, while La Salle allowed just one shot on goal in the victory.
The Explorers opened the scoring in the first quarter as Diedrichsen scored twice, both assisted by Marisol Torreyson.
La Salle added two more goals in the second quarter. Abbie Lorber found the back of the cage at 23:33 before Diedrichsen completed her hat trick at 27:38, with Natalie Ricci and Natalie Wilson earning assists on the play. The Explorers took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Kelsey Rowe extended the lead to 5-0 at 34:26 in the third quarter, scoring off an assist from Gabrielle LaCroix.
La Salle added three more goals in the fourth quarter. Gianna Lambert scored at 45:34 before Olivia Nolan found the cage at 48:55 off assists from Ricci and Jeanne Legast. Darian DeLeo capped the scoring at 51:09, with Rowe and Legast recording assists.
The Explorers finished with a 29-4 advantage in shots and earned 10 penalty corners. Diedrichsen led the way with three goals on four shots, while Ricci, Legast and Torreyson each tallied multiple assists in the contest.
Abby Boggs made one save during the first half before Zarah Synnestvedt took over in the second half. La Salle held New Haven without a shot on goal after halftime to secure its first shutout of the year.
La Salle returns to action next weekend, heading to Lock Haven on Friday for its second conference match before traveling to Rutgers on Sunday.
