Lock Haven, PA – The La Salle field hockey team earned a 2-1 overtime victory over Lock Haven Friday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field, with Darian DeLeo scoring the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in overtime.
After a scoreless first half, the Explorers broke through in the third quarter. Olivia Nolan put La Salle ahead at 35:21, scoring off an assist from Erin Sicari for her second goal in as many games.
The Explorers continued to pressure Lock Haven throughout the fourth quarter, but the Bald Eagles found the equalizer with 48 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime for the third time this season for the Explorers.
La Salle responded in the extra period as DeLeo found the back of the cage at 73:03, with Gianna Lambert providing the assist to secure the Explorers' first conference victory.
The Explorers finished with a 26-8 advantage in shots and put 17 attempts on goal. Abby Boggs made four saves in the victory, including three in the third quarter, while La Salle earned 11 penalty corners.
With the win, La Salle improves to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Explorers return to action Sunday when they travel to Rutgers.
