Chicago, IL – Freshman forward Shiloh Moore scored in the 88th minute for the second straight game as the La Salle women's soccer team rallied for a 1-1 draw against Loyola Chicago in a battle for first place in the Atlantic 10 on Thursday night in the Windy City.
La Salle moved to 4-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the A10, while Loyola Chicago moved to 4-2-4 overall and 1-0-1 in the league.
Moore, the reigning A10 Rookie of the Week, produced late-game heroics in the final moments for the second straight game, scoring her third goal of the season and her third goal in as many games.
Senior defensive captain Rylee Henson sent in a long ball from beyond the midfield stripe; junior midfielder Ella Cadigan headed the ball into the 18-yard box and Moore blasted a right-footed shot to tie the game in the 88th minute. For Cadigan, it was her eighth assist of the season, tying her with Livvy Moore (Kansas) and Izy Straub (Wisconsin) for the most in the NCAA.
Moore also produced the game-winning goal for La Salle in the 88th minute as the Explorers defeated Davidson 2-1 last Saturday.
Junior goalkeeper Samantha Widnick made six saves for the Explorers, highlighted by a handful of diving stops. Loyola Chicago outshot La Salle 11-2 in the first half after neither team recorded a shot in the opening 15 minutes. Widnick kept the Ramblers off the scoreboard with four saves in the opening half.
Widnick made a big stop for La Salle in the 28th minute with a diving save on Addison Schaffer's attempt from inside the 18-yard box. In the 35th minute, Widnick made back-to-back saves after the Ramblers had a free kick, including another diving save on Schaffer's attempt.
Mary Fornelli's first career goal gave Loyola Chicago the lead in the 48th minute. Zoe Hevey sent a cross inside the six-yard box and Fornelli scored with a left-footed shot in the lower right corner.
Graduate student forward Justyce Hollenbach recorded the Explorers' first shot on goal in the 57th minute, but Allison Deardorff kept the Ramblers in front with a save.
Widnick recorded her fifth save of the contest on Lanni's shot in the 61st minute. She followed suit with her sixth save on Schaffer's strike in the 64th minute, knocking the shot off the post.
Loyola Chicago challenged in the 70th minute, looking for a possible La Salle penalty. The challenge was quickly negated by video review.
Hollenbach nearly equalized in the 73rd minute, but her left-footed shot from just outside the 18-yard box sailed just over the crossbar. In the 82nd minute, Dierdorff made a diving save on Hollenbach's left-footed attempt.
The Ramblers finished the contest with a 14-10 advantage in total shots and held a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
Since 2023, the last four meetings between the teams have ended in a draw, including a 3-3 tie in Philadelphia last season.
La Salle will return to Philadelphia to continue A10 play against Rhode Island (3-4-3, 1-1 A10) on Sunday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
