Matt Howard enters his first season as a volunteer assistant at La Salle in 2016.
Howard joins the Explorers after three seasons as the lead assistant coach and JV head coach at Chestnut Hill College. Howard organized and facilitated practice and pre-game schedules, coordinated the Griffins strength and conditioning program and was integral with the team’s recruiting efforts.
Howard this past summer as the field manager for the Kokomo (Ind.) Jackrabbits, a college summer baseball team in the highly-competitive Prospect League. Howard was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team and player recruitment.
As a player, Howard was a two-time NCBWA All-Atlantic Region performer at Slippery Rock, hitting .398 in 96 games with 10 home runs, 19 doubles, 13 triples and 67 RBIs as an outfielder. Howard earned honorable mention All-America and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a senior after batting .401 with 21 extra-base hits and 40 RBIs.
After school, Howard has played professionally with the Traverse City Beach Bums and most recently with the Southern Illinois Miners.
The Philadelphia native was the recipient of the Jackie Robinson Scholarship award from the Philadelphia Phillies in 2007. Howard earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Slippery Rock in 2012.
