Neil Ahmed is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Explorers in 2021.
He began his baseball career at the University of Maryland as team manager from 2012-2015. Ahmed ran practices and camps, and traveled with the team for ACC and Big Ten Conference competition, including appearances at regionals and super regionals. He worked closely with John Szefc (current head coach at Virginia Tech) and Eric Bakich (current head coach at the University of Michigan).
During his time at Maryland, he worked with 17 players that went on to be selected in the MLB Draft, including current Major Leaguers Brandon Lowe and Lamonte Wade, Jr.
From 2015-2018, Ahmed worked as the Bench Coach and Bullpen Catcher for the Morehead City Marlins of the Coastal Plains League, working with several more draft picks from all across the country, specifically pitchers including current MLB pitcher Cal Quantrill.
A native Philadelphian, Ahmed was born and raised in nearby Roxborough and attended the William Penn Charter School for 13 years. He is currently pursuing a degree at Penn State University.
