Ashley Howard began his professional coaching career just miles from the place he played his college ball with the Drexel Dragons. He returns for his third season on Coach Giannini's staff. "I am extremely happy to have Ashley as part of our staff. I am very impressed with his knowledge of the game as a young coach, his ability to teach, his enthusiasm and energy and the relationship that he has had with the players and coaches that he has worked with." said Coach Giannini. Howard had his collegiate career cut short when he was diagnosed with a heart condition his sophomore season with the Dragons. In his final season at Drexel he averaged 8.9 points per game with just under five assists. In the summer of 2006 Howard was named assistant coach of the Jamaican National team and accompanied the squad on its Olympic qualifying bid in Kingston. THe team earned a gold medal in the qualifying tourney. The former Drexel standout also served as the Assistant Director of Eastern Invitational Basketball prior to La Salle. Howard stayed on the Drexel staff for three seasons as a student assistant for Bruiser Flint and earned his Bachelor's in Communications in May of 2004. A native Philadelphian, the Monsignor Bonner graduate was named by Steet and Smith's magazine as an honorable high school All-American, a two-time All-Catholic League selection, and was named to the Philadelphia Daily News All-City Team. Ashley is the son of Maurice Howard and Diane Coleman. He has a sister Ayana Howard (16) and a brother Kyran Howard (13).
