Matt Bloom

Matt Bloom is in his sixth season with the La Salle men's basketball program and his third as the director of basketball operations in 2016-17.

"Matt has helped our program in numerous ways over the past three years," head coach Dr. John Giannini said. "He has been active in academic support. His video work has been instructional and motivational. He has also been outstanding with advanced statistics and evaluating our team in different ways.

"The position of director of operations is not widely understood. It involves setting the daily schedule for all student-athletes through coordinating class schedules, study halls, practice schedules, community service, media responsibilities, departmental functions, strength and conditioning, training room times, off-season skill workouts and all team travel and meals.

"It requires the highest level of organization and attention to detail. This person creates culture and achievement through balancing a large number of activities. Matt has had this position before at Rutgers and is experienced in organizing a high-level program. We are very fortunate to have him available to us."

Bloom recently completed his second season as the men's basketball video coordinator at La Salle after one season as an academic support assistant with the program. He previously spent three seasons at Rutgers on Fred Hill's staff, including two as the operations coordinator.

"It has been a privilege to work for Coach G and be a part of the La Salle basketball family for the last three years," Bloom said. "I am honored and excited for the opportunity to become the director of basketball operations. I look forward to continuing to work with our student-athletes and such a terrific coaching staff."

Bloom has also served as a consultant with the New Jersey Nets, helping develop the team's defensive player rating system. During his tenure, he also worked for The Hoop Group and managed the office at the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic.

Bloom served as associate director of Fairleigh Dickinson's Knights basketball camps under head coach Tom Green from 2002-03. He has also worked as a volunteer at the Advanta Tennis Championships and the Adidas ABCD Basketball Camp.

The valedictorian of his high school class, Bloom attended Penn, earning a bachelor of arts in philosophy, politics and economics in 2004. He was a manager with the Quakers for four seasons under head coach Fran Dunphy.
