Nora McGurkin

Nora McGurkin

Nora McGurkin returned to her alma mater in August 2013, and will enter her second year on the sidelines in 2014-15.

In her first season on the Explorer sidelines, McGurkin assisted the squad to a 5-2 Atlantic 10 record which matched the program best set in 2010 when she was in an Explorer uniform. The team finished tied for second and advanced to its first Atlantic 10 Championship since 2010, earning the No. 3 seed. Individually, she helped coach the 2014 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, along with two All-Conference First Team picks and a Second Team honoree as well as three All-Rookie selections and two Academic All-Conference selections.

McGurkin, who graduated in 2012 and became the first former Explorer to rejoin as an assistant coach, was a team captain in 2012 who finished her four-year career ranked in the top 10 in La Salle history in a number of categories. She ranks third all-time in career assists with 43 and third in career draw controls with 118. Her 15 assists and 45 draw controls in 2009 are in the top 10 single-season lists. She was also an Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection in 2009 and All-Philly selection in 2012.

McGurkin also has coaching experience as the director of Black Bear Lacrosse Camps and as a clinician at Sweet Lax and Franklin & Marshall lacrosse clinics.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Nora back," Head Coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell said upon McGurkin's hire. "She has always been the heart and soul of our team as a player and we know she will bring that passion with her as a coach."
