PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University Baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader with St. Bonaventure, Saturday, in Atlantic 10 action at Hank DeVincent Field.

St. Bonaventure (17-19, 8-8 A-10) pounded out 20 hits - the most allowed by the Explorers' staff this season - en route to a 13-4 victory in the first game. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the third inning and were up 13-0 before La Salle put any runs on the board. It could have been worse, as the Bonnies also stranded 14 runners.

The Explorers left eight of their own on base, hit into three double plays - two of which were inning-enders with runners on first and second - and ended another inning with a caught stealing. Billy Kern, Rich Prall, and Kevin Prendergast each had a pair of hits for La Salle, who had 11 hits total, but they were all for singles.

Cody Vincent (3-6) won his third game of the year after throwing seven scoreless innings for the Bonnies. He allowed seven hits and walked one, but struck out four and benefited from the twin killers. Dan Waters dropped to 4-5 on the season with the loss. He threw 4 1/3 innings, allowed eight runs - six earned - and struck out four.

The Bonnies plated their first runs of the second game in the third, as well, after a two-RBI double by Joe Rizzo. They made it 3-0 when Randy Moley, who moved around the bases after a single, stole home in the fifth.

La Salle (14-23, 6-11 A-10) cut the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the sixth inning. John Malloy extended his current hitting streak to 12 games with a lead-off double to right center, then scored on Kern's single to center.

John Rickards, who had been hitless in his first five at-bats of the day, then tied the game in the eighth with a two-run home run to left center, driving in Kern, who registered his fifth hit of the day to lead off the frame.

However, Rizzo hit a lead-off home run in the top of the ninth and St. Bonaventure added another in the frame to claim the 5-3 victory in game two.

Going eight innings and getting the win in the nightcap was Jim Britton, who is now 4-2, while Josh Perkins registered his third save of the season. TJ Chism suffered the loss and is now 2-4 on the season.

The two teams will complete the three-game A-10 series with one game, Sunday, starting at 12 PM.
