On senior day, the Explorers fell to Rhode Island 3-0, (17-25, 23-25, 17-25).
Kelly Scanlon and Samantha Tulskie each posted eight kills for La Salle. Kourtney Clark tallied 27 assists and Breanna Mazalewski totaled 12 digs. For the Rams, Britta Baarstad notched 10 kills and Ashley Tennant had 15 digs.
The Rams took an early lead in the first set. At set point, the Explorers rallied on kills by Jacquelyn Mitrovich and Tulskie to push the score to 24-17, but a La Salle error on the next play gave Rhode Island the set, 25-17.
La Salle opened the second set strong, jumping out to a 15-11 lead on a Rams’ error and keeping a small lead through most of the set.
Rachel Finkbeiner and Alex Kennedy registered a block to push the score to 20-16. The Rams responded with three straight points before a kill by Finkbeiner stopped the rally.
A Mitrovich kill made the game 23-21, but the Rams closed out the hard-fought set on a 4-0 run, taking it 25-23.
The third set belonged to the Rams, as they took the set 25-17.
In a special pre-game ceremony, the Explorers honored their two seniors, Carly Conlon and Danielle DiMarco, for their dedication and hard work over their careers at La Salle. Today’s match concludes volleyball’s 2010 season.
