PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle field hockey team begins Atlantic 10 play this weekend with a pair of contests against Lock Haven and Temple. The Explorers will host LHU on Friday at 3 PM and travel down Broad Street to take on the Owls on Sunday.
Scouting the Explorers (5-7, 0-0 Atlantic 10)
La Salle has won two straight games, each by one goal, as it heads into conference play. The Explorers have had a balanced offense all season, with four players scoring at least four goals (freshman
Maddy Tettelbach, junior Rebecca Chylack and sophomores
Mariel Papa and
Olivia Shoemaker). Junior
Neelam Kumar leads the team with four assists.
Redshirt freshman
Lisa Shaffer, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, remains among the nation's top goalkeepers statistically. She is fourth in the nation in save percentage (.816) and seventh in saves/game (8.5). Redshirt sophomore
Haley Jennings is 11
th in the nation in defensive saves (four).
La Salle will host senior day next Sunday versus Saint Joseph's before wrapping up the home slate on Friday, October 28 versus Saint Louis. The SLU game will be video streamed via goexplorers.tv, the first field hockey game to be broadcast on the internet.

Lock Haven boasts two of the top three scorers in the Atlantic 10 in Leslie Ahern and Kristi Shepps. Both players have scored 11 goals this season. Eight of Lock Haven's last 11 goals have come from the duo.
The Lady Eagles have dropped two straight 2-1 defeats, including the conference opener to UMass last weekend.
Lock Haven has several local players returning home to the Philadelphia area, including GK Lindsay Staufenberg (1.96 GAA) from Norristown.
Following the game, LHU will travel to Richmond for a Sunday contest.

Temple has played a difficult non-conference schedule and has a deceptive 4-10 record. The Owls did win their conference opener last weekend, a 4-1 defeat of city rival Saint Joseph's.
TU has defeated Bucknell, Kent State, Delaware and SJU while falling to some impressive programs including Wake Forest, Cal, Maryland and Penn State.
Bridget Settles leads the team with 11 goals and 27 points and is among the Atlantic 10's top scorers. She has scored 12 of Temple's 22 goals this season. Caryn Lambright has added seven points while Amber Youtz has chipped in with six.
Lizzy Millen has spent most of the minutes in the cage and sports a 2.80 GAA.
