Weekly Notes
PHILADELPHIA - After wrapping up a six-game homestand that featured wins over Temple, Saint Joseph's, Xavier and No. 15 Dayton, the La Salle women's soccer team takes their nationally-ranked show on the road this weekend and will take on Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
The Explorers (12-0-1, 4-0) have outscored opponents 30-1 this season and have climbed as high as No. 22 in the most recent
Soccer America Poll released on Tuesday.
"The toughest part of our season still lies ahead of us," said head coach
Paul Royal. "We aren't satisfied with what we have accomplished so far and we are excited for the opportunities that lie ahead this weekend."
La Salle will spend the final three weeks of the regular season on the road with five more games away from McCarthy Stadium. So far on the road this year, the Explorers are a perfect 5-0.
Kelsey Haycook leads the team with 11 goals and is having a breakout rookie season.
Renee Washington, who scored three goals including both in the 2-1 overtime win over Dayton on Friday, is second on the club with eight tallies on the season.
The pollsters are also starting to take notice as La Salle jumped 24 spots from No. 55 to No. 31 in the most recent RPI released earlier this week.
The Rams (5-7-1, 0-3) are in search of their first Atlantic 10 victory on Friday night after dropping their last conference match against Charlotte last Sunday. Rhode Island and La Salle have one common opponent thus far in 2011, Northeastern. The Rams lost to the Huskies 2-0 on Sept. 16 and the Explorers won 1-0 on Sept. 9.
