Fry got the Blue and Gold on the board quickly off a pass from junior
Becca Chylack after a penalty corner. The Explorer defense, which had a scoreless streak of 165 minutes coming into the contest, kept the Owls off the scoreboard in the first half thanks to six saves by Shaffer.
The shutout streak was extended to nearly 181 minutes before Temple's Amber Youtz tied the game up with 19:10 to play. Lauren Hunt had the assist.
Neither team got a shot off in the final 12 minutes of regulation and La Salle headed to extra time for the fourth time this season.
Temple (6-10), which is on top of the A-10 with a 3-0 record, recorded two quick shots in overtime before Settles found the back of the cage on a penalty stroke.
TU held a 22-3 advantage in shots and a 6-2 lead in corners.
La Salle (6-8, 1-1 A-10) will visit Massachusetts on Friday at 3 PM.
