AMHERST, Mass. –Massachusetts remained undefeated in conference play after scoring goals in both halves to defeat La Salle, 2-0, on Friday afternoon. Redshirt freshman
Lisa Shaffer made nine saves in the loss.
UMass controlled play in the first half, outshooting La Salle 11-1, but managed only a Kim Young goal in the 15
th minute.
The Explorers (6-9, 1-2 A-10) registered nine shots in the second half but could not find the back of the cage. Lindsay Bowman made it 2-0 for the Minutewomen in the 57
th minute to provide some insurance.
Sophomore
Olivia Shoemaker had four shots to lead the Explorers, which were out-shot 23-10. UMass held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Alesha Widdall made six saves for UMass.
The Minutewomen (6-9 overall) remain undefeated in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-0 record, a half-game behind Temple, which is 4-0.
La Salle is currently in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 with a key contest against city rival on Sunday versus Saint Joseph's on the horizon. A victory would put La Salle in good position to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament, contested on November 4-5 at St. Joe's.
