Men’s Swimming Defeats Villanova, 181-118

PHILADELPHIA – The Explorers has a solid showing against Villanova, defeating the Wildcats, 181-118 on Friday afternoon at Kirk Pool.

The men started off the day with a victory in the 400 medley relay in 3:32.97 with swims by Dan Fitzgerald, Blase Szyszko, Edward Carnes and Austin Thomas.

Thomas had three first-place finishes on the day in the 50-free (21.23), 100-free (47.89) and 100-fly (51.73).

Freshman Stefan Sharpe got his first collegiate victory after clocking a 10:00.54 in the 1000-free.

Several other Explorers picked up first place finishes including Cameron Cabrera in the 200-free (1:45.09) and 500-free (4:51.57), Szyszko in the 100-breast (59.61) and 200-breast (2:13.04) and Joe Jung in the 200-fly (2:00.73).

The Explorers also won the 200-free relay (1:28.23) behind performances by Kyle Goan, Carnes, Cabrera and Brian Batson.

In the diving competition, Jordan Baker finished first in both the 1-meter (273.15) and 3-meter events (313.28).

La Salle will swim again tomorrow at Drexel at 1:00 p.m.
