Haycook Scores Twice, Nationally-Ranked Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten with 2-1 Win over Charlotte

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C.Kelsey Haycook scored once in each half to help keep No. 19 La Salle undefeated with a 2-1 win over Charlotte on a chilly Friday night at Transamerica Field.

“I'm real proud of our girls,” said head coach Paul Royal.  “It was another hostile environment and we gave up the equalizer in the second half but again found a way to win.”

Haycook's first tally came in the 25th minute off a beautiful service from Kierstyn Mabey and Leigh Gray.  Gray now has three assists in just five games this season.

After a Charlotte equalizer from junior Carrie Dail tied the game in the 60th minute, the Explorers (14-0-1, 6-0-0) continued to battle hard before breaking through just before the end of regulation.

In the 87th minute, Haycook shook free in the box after a corner kick deflection and headed one inside the left post off a service from freshman Maryam Huseini.  Huseini has recorded a game-winning assist in back-to-back games.

For Haycook, the two goals break the all-time freshman single-season record with 14, topping Renee Washington's total of 12 from a season ago.

La Salle now has won 13 straight matches overall and continued to add on to their single-season school record for victories.

Goalkeeper Melissa Sanger also had a record-setting night and broke the all-time school mark for career wins with her 34th victory in net.

The team will look to remain undefeated on Sunday when they travel to the Midwest to take on Saint Louis.  Opening kick is set for 2 p.m. eastern from Hermann Stadium.
