PHILADELPHIA – La Salle field hockey has reached the final weekend of the regular season with its goal of an Atlantic 10 Tournament berth within reach. A win Friday over Saint Louis or on Sunday at Richmond would propel the Explorers into A-10s, hosted this year by city rival Saint Joseph's on November 4-5.
Both games this weekend will have live statistics and video. The home game against Saint Louis will be the first ever field hockey broadcast.
Scouting the Explorers (7-9, 2-2 Atlantic 10)
La Salle moved into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over St. Joe's. The win was extra important in terms of tie-breakers for seeding, as La Salle now holds the tiebreaker over both the Hawks and Lock Haven, two contenders for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Freshman
Colleen Kempf scored both goals after coming off the bench in the second half. She earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for her performance, the third straight Explorer and sixth overall to earn recognition from the conference.
Another freshman,
Lisa Shaffer, continues her excellent season in the cage. She leads the nation in save percentage for the second straight week at .831 and is eighth nationally in saves per game (8.63).
Redshirt sophomore
Haley Jennings is 15th in defensive saves with four. As a team, La Salle is ninth in that category.
The Explorers have featured a balanced offensive attack as 10 players have scored goals. Three more players have added assists. Freshman

Saint Louis will wrap up the regular season with a pair of games in Philadelphia. The Billikens have dropped six straight but played Lock Haven and Temple tough in the past two contests.
LHU?squeezed by SLU with a 3-2 overtime win on Sunday, while Temple defeated Saint Louis 1-0 on Friday.
Lexie Lindblad leads the team with 14 points, followed by Nicole Kent with 12. Megan Ambrose sports a 3.67 GAA and a save percentage of .723.
Today's game marks a homecoming of sorts for SLU sophomore Laken Gehris (Hempfield, Pa.) and freshman Lisa Smith (Leola, Pa.).

Richmond is in third place and has clinched a spot in the field for the A-10 Tournament. The Spiders can move as high as first or as low as fourth depending on the results of this weekend's action.
Katelin Peterson leads UR with 11 goals, eight assists and 30 points and is third in the Atlantic 10 in all three categories. Chelsea Davies has eight goals, seven assists and 23 points while Rebecca Barry has added 10 points for the league's top scoring squad.
Defensively, Anna Zarkoski sports a 1.65 GAA with a .800 save percentage.
