No. 17 Women’s Soccer Draws With Fordham 1-1, Earns First Regular Season A-10 Title In Program History

Box Score
BRONX, N.Y. – Freshman Emily Fenton scored the equalizer for La Salle with just over four minutes remaining to earn a 1-1 draw at Fordham on a chilly Friday night at Jack Coffey Field.

The victory clinches the regular season Atlantic 10 title for La Salle, the first in the program's 26-year history.

The Explorers (15-0-3, 7-0-2) fell behind in the 76th minute when Michaela Murphy gave Fordham a 1-0 lead with a perfectly placed upper-90 shot past La Salle keeper Melissa Sanger.  Sanger made four saves in net to help preserve her undefeated record.

Over the next 10 minutes, La Salle continued to battle and generated multiple chances on goal before Fenton finally broke through with four minutes and 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

“I'm extremely proud of our girls for battling back again to earn the draw,” said head coach Paul Royal.  “These last couple of weeks have been very trying with five road games and a lot of travel, but we persevered through and kept our undefeated streak alive.”

La Salle finishes the regular season outscoring opponents 41-6 and only allowed 68 shots on goal.  Freshman Kelsey Haycook led the Explorers with 16 goals and 36 points.

The squad will enter next week's Atlantic 10 Championship as the number one seed and will play the lowest remaining seed in the semifinal round on Friday afternoon.
