Men's and Women's Novice Four Boats Capture Races at Head of the Schuylkill

PHILADELPHIA - The men's and women's novice four boats each captured first place to lead the La Salle rowing team at a weather-shortened Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday.

The men finished in 15:09.11, blasting past the competition as the second place boat (Army) was over 30 seconds behind in 15:41.93. The Explorers were the first of 15 boats to cross the finish line.

The women's novice four also captured its race, beating out 13 other boats and clocking a 16:56.68 to edge Villanova by just under five seconds.

The women's novice eight posted a strong race, finishing in the top half of the field in finishing 12th out of 28 teams. The Explorers posted a time of 16:16.27. Penn won in 14:49.23.

The men's open club eight posted an 11th place finish out of 29 boats, finishing in 13:44.97. Virginia captured the race with a time of 13:01.74.

The men's novice eight and women's open club eight also raced. The men's novice eight clocked a 15:50.28 for 31st out of 40, and the women's eight finished 12th out of 16 with a time of 16:19.63.

The Explorers return to the water on Nov. 12th for the annual Frostbite Regatta.
