Explorers Fall To Richmond, 4-1; Rematch in A-10 Semifinals Set For Friday

Box Score

RICHMOND, Va.
- Sophomore Mariel Papa scored the only goal for La Salle on Sunday afternoon in a 4-1 loss at Richmond. The Explorers had already clinched a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament with Friday's 3-0 win over Saint Louis and as the fourth seed will be paired up with the Spiders, which captured the A-10 regular season title with the victory, in the semifinals.

Game time is set for 11 AM on Friday from Ellen Ryan Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's. Massachusetts and Temple will meet in the other semifinal. The winners will meet on Saturday at 2 PM for the A-10 title.

Katelin Peterson had a hat trick for UR (13-6, 5-1 A-10), which has won five of its last six contests. Peterson put the Spiders ahead in the 16th minute before Papa tied things up for La Salle 12 minutes later.

Just six seconds after Papa's equalizer, Peterson found the back of the cage again to give the hosts a lead they would not relinquish.

Christina Ambrose and Peterson both added insurance goals in the second half.

Freshman Lisa Shaffer made three saves for the Explorers (8-10, 3-3 A-10), while Anna Zarkoski made five stops for Richmond.

The Spiders held a 14-6 lead in shots and a 4-3 advantage in corners.
