La Salle Returns Home After Hiatus To Host UC Davis On Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle returns home for the first time in three weeks on Saturday when it hosts UC Davis in the final non-conference game of the season. Game time is noon.

Scouting the Explorers (4-7, 0-0 Atlantic 10)

The Blue and Gold split a pair of games last weekend, falling to Bryant, 4-1, and defeating Sacred Heart, 2-1. Junior Becca Chylack scored both goals for the Explorers, including the game-winner versus SHU with 13 minutes to play. Chylack moved into 7th on the La Salle career points list and 10th on the goals list.

Freshman goalie Lisa Shaffer is currently eighth in the nation in saves (91) and save percentage (.798). She is on top of the A-10 in saves and saves per game and is second in save percentage. Redshirt sophomore Haley Jennings is 15th in the nation in defensive saves.

Freshman Maddy Tettelbach is fifth in the A-10 in goals (five) and points (11), while junior Neelam Kumar is fifth in assists (four). As a team, La Salle leads the A-10 in shots and second in goals.

Saturday's game is also alumnae appreciation day. All field hockey alumnae in attendance will be recognized for their support.

The two teams met for the first and only time on September 5, 2009 with UC Davis taking a 2-1 overtime  victory in a neutral site game at Saint Francis (Pa.).

Despite a 2-7 overall record, UC Davis comes into Saturday's game just out of the top 20 rankings according to the NFHCA. The Aggies have received 27 votes to place them 25th in the poll and have played two teams ranked in the top 20, including #7 Stanford and #15 Indiana.

Emily Mecke leads a balanced attack with three goals and an assist. Kristen Lopez has four assists to lead the team. In goal, Lauren Sawvelle (2.13 GAA) and Conley Craven (2.89) have split time.

UC Davis is in the western division of the NorPac, which includes Stanford, Pacific and Cal. The eastern division is Davidson, Longwood and Appalachian State. The Atlantic 10 champion plays the Nor Pac Champion in a NCAA play-in game on November 8.  

The Aggies have lost five straight since defeating Bryant, 3-1, on Sept. 6.

UC Davis is its third season of varsity competition after adding the sport in 2009.
