PHILADELPHIA – The volleyball team honored seniors
Alexis Little,
Alex Kennedy,
Jacquelyn Mitrovich and
Kourtney Clark at Tom Gola Arena in the Explorers' season finale, which the team dropped 3-0 (25-12, 25-,18, 25-14) to Duquesne.
Kennedy posted four kills and one service ace in her final match. Mitrovich added five blocks to go along with two kills, while Little posted a kill and a dig in the match.
Clark was represented by her sister and father at the pre-ceremony game after sustaining a leg injury in the previous match.
Junior
Kelly Scanlon started off the first set with an ace. The Explorers hung in the game, but Duquesne, leading 18-12, used a seven-point run to close out the set.
Despite a 12-3 run by the Dukes in the middle of the second set, the Explorers got within three at 17-12 after four straight kills – one by Mitrovich, two from junior
Samantha Tulskie and one from Kennedy.
A
Rachel Melich kill made the margin three again at 18-15, but Duquesne worked to set point at 24-16. La Salle saved set point twice before the Dukes converted on their third try for a 25-18 set win.
The Explorers would go on to drop the third set, 25-14.
Starting in her first game as setter, Melich added 19 assists. Scanlon posted a team-high 12 digs, while Tulskie had nine kills.
The Dukes had a balanced attacking corps and Taylor Jones added 31 assists.
