Thomas Breaks La Salle's 100-Fly Record; Second Record To Fall This Weekend


LEWISBURG, Pa. – Swimming senior Austin Thomas broke his second school record in as many days at the Bucknell Invite.

The Cherry Hill, N.J. native swam a 48.61 in the 100-fly to break the record of 49.16 set by teammate Edward Carnes at last year's Atlantic 10 Championships.

Besting the rest of the field by nearly two seconds, he qualified first for this evening's finals.  Also moving on the in event is Carnes, who posted a 51.11 in the prelims.

Several other swimmers also qualified to move on to night swims. Joe Jung, Sean McCall, Robby Gravel and Eric Patenaude all made the cut in the 400-IM.

In the 200-free, Zach Anderson, Brian Batson, Cameron Cabrera, Sean McCall and James Gravel will be returning tonight.

Blase Szyszko and Patenaude qualified in the 100-breast.

Dan Fitzgerald, Carnes, Dave Derr and James Gravel will compete in the 100-back this evening.

In the men's 3-meter dive, Jordan Baker earned 308.20 points to qualify second for the finals this evening.
