PHILADELPHIA - Rising senior
Ed Carnes of the La Salle golf team recorded a two-under par 70 at Ash Brook Golf Course on Thursday to qualify for the NJSGA Men´s Public Links Championship, set for July 21 at Heron Glen Golf Course.
"I had been struggling with my swing for a few weeks leading up to the qualifier, but everything came together just right," Carnes said. "I was very confident prior to my first tee shot of theh day and even said to my dad that I felt I had a real chance of winning."
Carnes tied for second in the 80-player field and was two back of Jacob Stockl, who shot a 68.
The two-sport athlete at La Salle (swimming) carded five birdies on the day including three out of four holes on the back nine.
Carnes will return to 20th and Olney in August for his final season in the pool and on the links for the Explorers. He set a school record at A-10s in the 100 butterfly and finished second, while consistently being La Salle's second golfer in the spring.
