Galloway, NJ - The La Salle University men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh out of 12 teams at the challenging Wildcat Spring Invitational, hosted by Villanova at Galloway National Golf Club on April 6-7. The Explorers posted a 54-hole team total of 906 (+54), highlighted by a second-round surge that helped them climb the standings on a difficult layout where the field averaged more than six strokes over par.
Gavin Dosch led the way for the Explorers, finishing tied for 15th individually at +13. Dosch's second round was especially impressive, posting an even-par 71. Over the tournament, he collected 38 pars and just eight bogeys, the fewest in the field. Dosch also ranked third in par-3 scoring average at 3.07.
Freshman Kyle Virsik delivered La Salle's strongest opening round with a 72 (+1), helping him finish tied for 20th at +14 overall. He was among the tournament's most efficient par-4 scorers, averaging 4.11 per par-4 to rank third-best in the field. Senior Armand Loscalzo matched Virsik for La Salle's second-best individual placement, also tying for 20th. Loscalzo's second-round 70 (-1) was the lowest single round by any Explorer in the event.
Sophomore Alex Yong was the fourth scorer for the Explorers, finishing tied for 40th at +19. Yong carded consistent rounds of 78, 78 and 76, with his final round representing his tournament-best mark. Sophomore Payton Hawke closed with a 76 in the final round, rebounding from a tough second round to finish tied for 62nd at +28.
As they have all season, the Explorers strengths emerged on par-4s, where they ranked second among all teams with a 4.29 average. La Salle will return to action at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational on April 12 at Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pennsylvania.
