Volleyball Heads Across Town For Big 5 Tournament

PHILADELPHIA - The Explorers will play in the Big 5 Tournament at the Palestra this weekend, first facing Villanova tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Explorers will play Temple at 10:00 a.m. and Penn at 4:00 p.m. A live video stream for the contest against the Quakers can be accessed here.

La Salle will play its first games on the road and enters the tournament with a 1-3 record. The Explorers won their season opener against St. Peter's and are most recently coming off a 3-0 loss to Towson on Tuesday evening.

Junior Kelly Scanlon and sophomore Rachel Finkbeiner have anchored the Explorers' attack in the early part of the season.

Scanlon leads the Explorers with 35 kills on the season already has a double-double to her name, notching 16 kills and 14 digs against Providence. The junior is coming off a match-high 12 kills against Towson.

Finkbeiner, after seeing limited time during her freshman season, has been a strong hitter on the court in the Explorers' first four matches and has 30 kills this season.

Senior Kourtney Clark has served as La Salle's primary setter and is averaging close to nine assists per set on the season.

Seniors Jacquelyn Mitrovich and Alex Kennedy lead the blocking corps, with a combined 13 blocks early in the season. Kennedy has notched two solo blocks.

Junior Breanna Mazalewski is tops on the Explorers in digs with 56.
