Field Hockey Falls To Penn, 1-0, In Double Overtime

PHILADELPHIA - Penn's Helene Caniglia scored three minutes into double-overtime to lift the Quakers to a 1-0 victory over La Salle on Wednesday night at Franklin Field. Freshman Lisa Shaffer made eight saves in defeat, the third overtime contest in the last four games for the Explorers.

Caniglia inserted the ball on the penalty corner and then took a pass from Kirstin Snyder to find the back of the cage.

La Salle (3-6) held a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 13-9 lead in corners but was unable to convert against its city rivals.

Senior Lindsay Fry had a team-high five shots while sophomore Mariel Papa had four.

Penn, which improves to 2-6, was led by goalie Kieran Sweeney's 13 saves.

The Blue and Gold are back in action this weekend with games at Bryant on Saturday and Sacred Heart on Sunday.
