PHILADELPHIA
–Villanova freshman Leah High scored two goals to lead the Wildcats over La Salle, 3-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday at DeVincent Field. Explorer freshman Maddy Tettelbach, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, scored the only goal for La Salle.

The Wildcats (2-2) got on the board first in the 16th minute when Jessica Swoboda found the back of the cage off a rebound. With 4:40 remaining before halftime, VU increased its lead to 2-0 when High deflected a shot by Laura Wilson.

La Salle cut the deficit to one when Tettelbach took a pass from sophomore Heather Barretta and redirected it past Wildcat keeper Megan Goelz with 18 minutes to play. It was her team-best third goal of the season.

The Wildcats deflated the hosts just two minutes later when High scored again after deflecting a shot by Olivia Maggitti.

La Salle goalie Lisa Shaffer made four stops in the loss. Goelz stopped 10 shots.

The Explorers (1-3) held a 17-11 advantage in shots and a 10-3 lead in corners.

The Blue and Gold wrap up a three-game homestand on Saturday against Siena at 2 PM. Live statistics will be available via GoExplorers.com.
